1st Carnival Ever – it was Sensory Overload but he did it! 5-5-17

Autism and SPD has kept Tyler from trying many things. Since incorporating a Young Living regimen into Tyler’s daily intake of things we’ve been about to try a few more things.  He doesn’t want to do it again, but he tried.   Lots of calming oils and peppermint oils  (after riding spinning rides)

YL – IT’S NOT JUST OILS
As most know I have Tyler on a regimen of EO’s for calming, detoxing, immune building and seasonal discomforts. I have Tyler on a supplement regimen (some YL and some not) for immune health, overall health and brain health. For the most part I also watch what Tyler eats, trying to keep the food as clean as possible. I try to maintain a GF/CF HFCS free, Yeast free and processed sugar free diet. I try to stay away from artificial sweetners such as aspartame. A combination of all of this has always made contributions to Tyler’s improvements in certain areas.
IN A NUTSHELL – Tyler and I have been on the EO journey now for about 2 ½ years. I started him off 1oz of Ningxia Red and then eventually increased to 2, replacing this amazing drink for his multi-vitamins and greens vitamins. I did the weaning over a period of two years, I began reducing prescription medication and strengthening his calming blend. It took me a little while because I like to try things for about 3 – 6 months before adding or reducing something. His prescription medication called for a 5mg max dose, I had him at 2mg when I began to wean him down. As I reduced the dose, I would increase the calming oils and Ningxia Red drink. In June Tyler’s psych doctor gave me guidance on how to completely wean him off since I had him down to 1mg.
ENTER….MINDWISE
Since Mindwise works on brain health and cognitive health, I waited until I weaned him off prescription medication to begin Mindwise. About 6 months after using Mindwise I began adding Mineral Essence (Trace Minerals). So in July of 2016 he began Mindwise and January I began adding Mineral Essence . (For those of you that are familiar with Trace Minerals they taste HORRIBLE but YL has the best tasting trace minerals – Also, they are ionic trace minerals and I think it’s 64) Trace Minerals are a necessity to our bodies, but even though the taste is better than others, it is still difficult to drink, so I either place it in a capsule (vegetarian capsules) or apply on the back of the knee (transdermal absorption). It is with the consistant daily consumption of Mindwise that I began to notice a lot of Tyler’s leaps and bounds improvements. I noticed improved cognitive health beginning with the Ningxia Red in the 7th grade, but the Mindwise really added to that and then also the Mineral Essence. These 3 combos have really helped create an overall health improvement and cognitive improvement.
I give praise to teachers, therapists, tutors, myself and family and friends who all contribute to Tyler’s progress but I have been supplementing Tyler for years but the improvements have not been as significant as they have been with YL products.

OMGoodness – HAPPY HAPPY TEARS! I COULDN’T BELIEVE MY EARS
Tyler – “Ms. N read a book Jack and the Beanstalk”
(I was very curious to see if Tyler would answer questions – most of you know Tyler is VERY echolalic and has extreme verbal processing delay and difficulty in retrieving information and responding to questions)
So here is the conversation I just had

Me – “Was it a good book”

Tyler – “yes it was good”
Me – “who climbed the beanstalk”
Tyler (no hesitation) “Jack”
I smiled
Me – “who did he meet at the top of the beanstalk”
Tyler (no hesitation) “a giant”
Me – “where did the beanstalk come from”
Tyler – (a brief pause) “she threw the beans”
Me – “who threw beans”
Tyler – (no hesitation) “the mother”
Me – “whose mother”
Tyler – (pausing and thinking) “Jack’s mother”
Me – “why did she throw the beans”
Tyler – (no hesitation) “she was angry”
Me – “why was she angry”
Tyler – (pausing and thinking) “she was angry”
Me – “yes she was angry but what made her mad?”
Tyler – (without hesitation) “at Jack”
Me – “why was she mad at Jack?”
Tyler – (without hesitation) “no fruit or dairy”
Tyler walks off (I guess he had enough LOLOLOLOLOL but I tried to keep it going as long as I could)
This was absolutely AMAZING! Even though all I got out of Tyler about his day at school was that “it was a good day” and that was his friend “R” was feeling better (meaning she had returned to school from being out)
Who, what , when, where and why questions are almost NEXT TO IMPOSSIBLE for Tyler to answer! (This continues to be one of our speech therapy goals) Very little information is revealed about his days at school.
But this back and forth conversation and him telling me about the book was out of the blue and was appropriate and accurate (another huge accomplishment)

March 8, 2017

Tyler has made massive improvements and progress but it doesn’t mean autism or autistic behaviors have disappeared. It does mean that the behaviors are fewer and farther between and that how he handles situations are getting better.
Yesterday Tyler had an incident in the classroom and his teacher and I were not pleased with his behavior BUT we were pleased with all the “words and communication”. The behavior could also be typical teenaged rebellion behavior (sometimes it’s hard to distinguish between the two).
Yesterday Ms. Nutt was in a meeting. Tyler sneezed – Ms. G gave him some tissues.
Tyler “Ms. G, I don’t need tissues.” So a few minutes later Ms. G looked and the tissues were on the floor and she asked Tyler to pick them up and he did not and she waited. Then Tyler says “don’t call my mom. My mom’s at work” I agree with the teachers that this was interesting because it was not ever mentioned that I would be called. (this is a good to know (from past behaviors) that he knows I can be called when needed). He didn’t apologize to Ms. G.  Words were good, behavior was not LOL. I’ve asked him to apologize, let’s see if he does. He NORMALLY apologizes for his behavior yesterday he did not – ugh!
When they were getting ready to leave school, he told Ms. G that his tummy was hungry and that he wanted Tacos. I sent a message back asking her to remind him that after sports, he gets Tacos. When I picked him up from SPORTS, he did tell him he was hungry and wanted tacos. This is major simply because he doesn’t really recognize hunger or being full. He functions by a clock when it comes to eating. This is progress
Mr. T, Tyler’s 6th grade teacher visited Ms. N’s classroom and he was able to verbalize to one of the student helpers that this was Mr. T, he works at Baker and he told the student helper to shake Mr. T’s hand. (I’ve been working on hand shaking with Tyler and trying to get away from hugging) (I thought this was bossy but Ms. N said that Tyler did it in a polite way) – Memory of Mr. T and where he worked is GREAT and able to retrieve that and share with someone was even better!!!
Then Tyler gets home and tells me he saw Mr. T who works at Baker (lol that will forever be his connection with that) and he saw Ms. T (if you remember this is the para that got very ill and it was very upsetting to Tyler) and even took a picture with her. He said that Mr. T and Ms. T were in Ms. N’s classroom.
Some non pleasing behavior BUT lots of great words and brief conversations!!!!!! The a-typical “good day” was not the typical response and I didn’t have to ask questions to pull out information!
