He knows his full name!!!

Many people have 3 names, a first, middle and last.  My children have 4 names. I thought to myself, if I can just get Tyler to learn 3 of his names, I will be doing good. He has known his name for a while (3 of the 4 that is)

This morning on the way to school – here was conversation:

Tyler:  “Mom you know what?”

Me:  “What’s that Tyler?” (I just knew it was going to be Thomas related LOL)

Tyler:  “My name is Tyler Austin Farnsworth Bryan”

Me:  In shock “Yes it sure is.  That is your full name. Where did you see your full name at?”

Tyler:  “At the High School”

Me:  “Well good job Tyler, good job!”

Tyler:  “Thanks mom, I have a lot more learning to do”

Me: “Tyler no matter our age, we never stop learning and you my son are awesome!”

Tyler:  “I am awesome, thank you”

These bits and pieces just come out of the blue.  Not sure what he truly knows but love how he’s starting to piece things together.

Boycott Autism Speaks

As Autism Awareness and Acceptance month begins, go any color but “blue” Blue is a financial campaign for Autism Speaks, not for the awareness or acceptance of those on the spectrum or their families. The 2018 updated information for AU speaks is in the link at the end of this post. Most of us first brought into the Autism World, go to Autism Speaks – but after a while you realize that they are not truly there to help those in the autism community. IF you want to financially donate – please check out other National Organizations (National Autism Association or another one is Autism Society of America or better yet, check in your local community for local organizations that provide actual help/support for families – here in Harris County, Texas we have several). IF you feel the need to donate there are many organizations to help. There was a time I was a AU Speaks supporter and lit it up blue, but the more you know, the more you grow…… Boycott Autism Speaks and support other national organizations or your local organizations, or a family directly.   This isn’t a push for financial donations, but so many want to give financially during any “awareness” month. Don’t forget – donations directly to special needs teachers for their classrooms will truly help so much. This is encouragement to donate in areas that help the families or the person(s) on the spectrum. But your patience, kindness, prayers, smiles and acceptance is the best support of all. https://autisticadvocacy.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/AutismSpeaksFlyer_color_2018.pdf

Learning and Dealing with Grief

One of the Paraprofessionals in Tyler’s classed passed away last week from injuries obtained in a house fire.

For Tyler, death is very abstract and difficult to understand. He’s been more aware of other people’s sadness instead of truly feeling and processing his own.

I wanted to share information that was provided to me by Tyler’s Speech Therapist.  Bo’s Place is an organization that helps grieving families. They sent her some links that can possibly help with those on the spectrum.

It appears that it is sold out, but some used versions are available. https://www.amazon.com/Have-Question-about-Dea…/…/1785927507

These links were also included with the link to the book

The WOW factor

The WOW factor – the clearer his mind becomes the more surprised I am!!!
Background: Tyler used to eat so much yogurt is was unbelieve. Orange Cream and Key Lime Pie, this was staple in his diet for probably age 5-9/10.
Current: We were at the grocery store yesterday and I had a coupon for some coconut milk yogurt (we are pretty much dairy free in this household) so I picked up some to have in the fridge.   About 2 hours after we were home, Tyler sat down and started “mumbling” and I said “Tyler what are you saying?” He said, “Key Lime Yogurt at Baker Jr. High” I was quite stunned and puzzled – and I thought about it and it had been that long since we bought yogurt because he just all of the sudden stopped eating it. He never verbally expressed a desire to stop, that he didn’t like the taste, it was just always a “no” at the store or it would go bad sitting in the fridge.
I have noticed since adding the multigreens (infused with Melissa Oil), combined with the Mindwise, Ningxia Red, Sulfurzyme, Mineral Essence and SuperB, Thieves oral care, chemical free living in the home that, things I never knew he remembered just comes out now and then. He relates most things to a “school” either his elementary school or junior highs, which is ok, because it gives me a insight to the “time frames” of his memory. I know people on the spectrum have amazing memories, it’s retrieving the information that can be very challenging and retrieving it up demand is more challenging.
I still don’t have the “why” as to why he no longer wanted key lime yogurt, but I was blown away at the fact that he remembered and retrieved this from about 5 years ago.  I can’t get over how these products are changing our lives!   They maybe just “moments” here and there but they are important moments that can lead to more!!!!
